Do you want to hike with us?

Hello world!

We have been in Croatia for couple of months, mostly stuck in office. For bigger parts of our day we are on a computer or a phone (aren’t everybody?), so we enforced the rule to “go outside” at least once a day. Are you #teamgooutside?

Since we are based in Split there are a lot of beautiful places to go daily. Everyday, we try find new picturesque place to share on our Instagram stories. Are you following us on Instagram jet? @dianomaya

Hiking with Mosor

Once a week we go outside the city, to spice up our life. Our friends are members of MOSOR hiking association and they are always inviting us to go hiking with them. Finally, we found a date when everybody was available, weather was perfect and tour sounded amazing. We went hiking to top “Sveti Ilija” on Rilić, from Gradac city.

I have a bad knee and we weren’t fully equipped for this activity, but we love views from top of the mountains. Chasing those kind of views is priceless!

To give you some facts: Rilić is southeast part of Biokovo, Dalmatian mountain. It is about 3 hour hike from Gradac to the top, on 773 m altitude.  From “Sveti Ilija” top you can see unforgettable views of Gradac city, Bacina Lakes (Baćinska Jezera) and islands Hvar, Korčula, Mljet & Pelješac. And we saw it alright!

This wasn’t our first time hiking. Didn’t I say we love views from top of the mountains? Last year we did one day trip to Nature Park Biokovo. We drove with a car from Makarska all the way to the top. In video below, you can see astonishing views from Ravna vlaška – 1 228 m, Štrbina – 1 338 m, Vošac, 1 422 m and Sv. Jure – 1 762 m. From each of this lookout points you can see central Dalmatians islands (Brac, Solta, Vis, Bisevo, Susac, Lastovo and Korcula), well… practically whole south Dalmatia 🙂

Last December, Diano went with his friend Pave & Kawasaki KRL 650 off road to Kozjak. Kozjak is little mountain above Split city. They started in Šestanovac, drove trough Omiš, Split & Klis. First stop was Sv. Jure church, viewpoint on 676 m. Second, Sv. Luka on 779 m. On their way back, they stopped at Klis fortress. Fortress defended Split from Ottoman empire long long time ago, but recently it is known as location of Daenerys Meereen city walls in “Game of Thrones”.

Let’s not forget that we participated in “hello to the spring” event in honor of Earth Day, held on the Omiška Dinara mountain, near Omiš city. I’ve wrote a blog about that event, which you can read -> HERE.

I am so grateful for YOU, who reads my blogs till the end. Write down in comment who are you guys and I will shoutout my favorite in next blog 🙂
Also, if you would like to hike with us, let us know and we will try to make it happen!

TOP things to do in STOBREC

Hello world!

IMG_5436-1

Recently, we have been posting few pictures from Stobrec on our Instagram page (are you following us jet? -> DianoMaya) and our followers keep asking us what are best things to do in Stobrec. Finally, we have some time to name TOP 5:

CAMPING STOBREC

Camp “Camping Stobreč Split” is in green oasis, surrounded on two sides by the sea and on the third side by Žrnovnica river mouth. Besides chic and cozy bungalows, they have “Horus” restaurant and few beach bars. You can find sun chairs and parasols to rent, under which you can enjoy sipping interesting cocktails and listening good music. Beach, also, offers may activities, which are on our list too :).

PINNIDAE EXPLORING – Mediterranean pen shell

In Stobrec, you can find family of Mediterranean pen shell. Take your snorkeling gear and explore underwater! Just be aware, they are protected species and fine for harvesting is 400 EUR (3.000 HRK).

STOBREC CITY CENTRE

Visit old Christian basilica, remains of an antique fortification wall and walk down riva promenada.

FOOD

There are many restaurants with traditional Dalmatian cuisine and we highly recommend “Konoba Nikola”.

ACTIVE VACATION TOURS IN CROATIA

Hello world!

We have been working very hard, so we paused with blogging for a while. Some of you already know that we are seasonal workers in Croatia. Imagine being in Croatia and not experience what it has to offer? No, big no! Always find time to have fun in life!

Today we are taking you trough our ACTIVE VACATION TOURS:

PRIVATE BOAT TOUR, SPLIT

Split, Private boat tour

Hopp on Biseran boat and ask them to take you on sunset tour near Split. Boris from Biseran was task oriented and made for us tailored tour to Čiovo. We took some Gin, fruit, lost’s of positive energy and had the best time we had in a long time!

Find out more HERE.

ZIP LINE, OMIŠ

Are you as much as adrenaline junkie as we are? Experience the rush while descending through the Cetina canyon with ZipLine Omiš! It has 8 steel ZipLine wires with total length of 2.100 m and the longest one is 700m (conveniently or not, that is the first one). Also worth of mentioning is the speed, they say you can go 65 km/h.

Before you go to big wires there is short wire where guides will teach you how to brake and act on cable on these small lines. So, if you haven’t done it before, don’t be afraid they will show you how to ZipLine. Keep in mind there are short walks between wires, so dress appropriately. Bring water! We were in bigger group, so we waited on each wire.

We were in Omiš several times, even took a ride with a boat on a river, but the views of Cetina canyon and river from ZipLine is something very different and breathtaking!!

KRKA WATERFALLS, ŠIBENIK

While Plitvice National Park is more popular tourist destination, there is little difference between the two. Most important difference is that in Krka National Park you can actually swim in the water! That is also the main reason why we like it more :).

Krka National Park in Croatia is located in central Dalmatia, just a few kilometers of the city of Šibenik. We got there from Split, with a car, but you can easily find daily tours.

Main attractions are the waterfalls and cascades Skradinski buk, Roški slap and island Visovac with its monastery. Keep in mid there is a lot of walking, so bring appropriate shoes, liters of water and something to eat. You can make little picnic at the meadow near Skradinski buk, just be aware of hungry swans that walk around :).

BOAT TOUR, ISLAND VIS

Island Vis is our favorite island in Croatia, so far. We did full day trip around the island, last year, and it was the best summer memory we had! Boat trip starts and ends in Komiza city. They took us to popular beach Stiniva and Green cave, less known but wonderful Smokova and Pritišćina bay, military tunnels and we passed by Vis city.

See you again soon and don’t forget to:

She is in love with Plitvice waterfall!

Hello World!

For you who didn’t recognize it, we are in Plitvice National Park, one of the most beautiful National Park in Europe and Maya is in love with it!

IMG_4558-1

Plitvice National Park, in Croatia, is known for its 16 lakes, waterfalls, canyons and streams, which makes it perfect gateway from crowded cities. If you are planing trip soon, here are some information that might help you organize it!

PARKING

We drove to Plitvice NP with a car, therefore we needed a parking. Car parking costs 7HRK (1EUR) per hour. There are 2 Main entrances to the park and each have parking. We arrived from Rastoke and road led us to Entrance 1.

ENTRANCE PLAN

Plitvice NP is logistically divided into the Upper Lakes and the Lower Lakes. Entrance 1 is closest to the Lower Lakes, Entrance 2 is slightly closer to the Upper Lakes. The most exciting and worth visiting place in Plitvice National Park is The Big waterfall. If you are in a hurry it is better to park at Entrance 1, from which there is a direct path to Big waterfall. That is exactly what we did, as we came around noon to the park.

PLITVICE PARK HIGHLIGHTS

Like mentioned before, the most exciting place in Plitvice National Park is The Big waterfall, but that is just the beginning of the park story.

Šupljara underground cave is slippery, so be careful, but it is also art of nature.

Near Lake Gradinsko is a series of spectacular waterfalls.

IMG_4715-1

Lake Kozjak is the park’s largest lake.

Lake Prošćansko has perfect Instargam reflection ;).

IMG_4770-1

Park has variety of trails, all linked by the trains and boats. If you have time walk, instead of jumping on to train, nature is spectacular!

TIP: Be aware that swimming is forbidden.

FOOD

There are few places where you can buy food and drinks in Plitvice National Park, but we read that food is expensive there so we carried our own food with us. You can organize a nice picnic with an amazing view to the lakes!

TIP: bring plenty of water, or try water from the stream 🙂

ACCOMMODATION

If you are planing to stay in area you can either find some apartments or hotels in nearby villages.

Castles of Croatia

Hello world! How are you?

We are doing pretty good since spring arrived in Croatia, there are plenty of sunny days to travel around this beautiful country. This time road took us to Karlovac and we decided to explore castles around it.

Dubovac castle

First stop is Dubovac castle! It is castle from 13th century and it overlooks city of Karlovac. It was once owned by famous Croatian counts and dukes, including Frankopan and Zrinski family. Nowadays, most of castle is under renovation, but there is restaurant inside where you can try and enjoy local cuisine. Don’t miss small lake (on a side of the castle) and the great view point (in front of castle).

IMG_4210-1

We easily found Dubovac castle on GPS, but for next ones we had to use “ask the locals” method. There are almost none markings on the road, so follow directions for cities castles are located in.

Ozalj castle

That leads us to city of Ozalj and Ozalj castle. Castle is located on a cliff above the Kupa River. Once, it was the joint castle of the Croatian noble families Frankopan and Zrinski, which has great historical value. There is small entrance fee for Castle and Museum (approx. 4 EUR per person). We wandered for a while around the Castle’s courtyard, but didn’t enter the museum. The views of Kupa river from castle are amazing!

Ozalj Power Plant

Near Ozalj castle, you can also see Ozalj Hydroelectric Power Plant, which is the second oldest hydroelectric power plant in Croatia. Ozalj Power Plant looks breathtaking and you can easily say it was our third “castle” in Karlovac county :).

Ribnik Old town Castle

Last spot, of our trip, was city of Ribnik and Castle Old town (local: Stari grad). Old town Ribnik castle is feudal lowland castle with circular courtyard and the only ‘water castle’ or island’s town, in Croatia. Old town Ribnik was used for filming several historical films. Unfortunately, castle is not open for visitors, which is such a shame. We used our Mavic drone to see what is inside.

We are staying in this region and visiting Rastoke watermill village next! If you are planing to explore this region more, like we did, there are affordable places to sleep in Karlovac.

Earth Day celebration above Omiš

Hello world!

Our friend Pave invited us to the hiking event in Omiš, we didn’t ask much, just said YES! We have been to Omiš with Pave before (video below) and we always like coming back.

Mount hut Imber

Event was “hello to the spring” in honor of Earth Day and it was held on the Omiška Dinara mountain. Pave convinced us it is only 20 minute light walk, it wasn’t :). It is approximately 40 minute walk up, medium heavy. For Maya, who is out of shape, felt harder than that. But, however you rate level of incline, one thing is 100% true – it is worth it! Views from top of the mountain are breathtaking!

Climb starts from place Borak, above Omiš, and first stop was Mountain hut “Imber”.

Mountaineers from all different Croatian Mountaineering Association were there with their families; cooking beans, playing funny games, sharing a laugh and stories.

We didn’t plan to go all the way to the top “Kula“, but Jesena (Pave’s friend) convinced us that views are even better than what we’ve seen so far. How can you say no to that?

Was it worth it? Let us know in comments below 🙂
